Distractions
“when the enemy can not destroy you, his job is to DISTRACT you” Deric Muhammad
from me to you…
Distraction is the process of diverting your attention from your desired area of focus. Distractions can come from both external sources and internal sources. Both external and internal distractions can hinder you from reaching your goals, dreams and purpose. Today I’m going to focus on the external distractions. What are they? They could be family members, work, church, people, school, health and friends.
I think our biggest distraction some time is our own family. I don’t mean that in a bad way. But, our love for a family member can cause you to focus on their issue rather that your purpose. For instance, when your adult child is struggling in life and shares with you their struggle, instantly you take on their concern. Putting your all into helping them diverting you from what you are called to do. DISTRACTION! How about when a relationship is not good between two people that you love and you are placed in the middle of it. You carry the weight of their relationship. You think about it being better. You spend time in prayer for them. You think about them constantly. All diverting your attention from what you are called to do. DISTRACTIONS!
I like what Winston Churchill said about distractions, “you will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks.” You must stay focused. In many horse races you see the horses wearing blinders. This is to prevent the horse from becoming distracted. What are you doing to prevent your distractions?
It is important to know what to pay attention to and what not to pay attention to. If it’s family that’s causing the distraction, pray and release them. Trust God to move on their behalf. You have to keep your eyes on your destiny. I opened with the quote “when the enemy can’t destroy you, his job is to distract you.” You were born with a God given pupose and destiny. And I feel like you have been fighting a good fight of faith. But every time you turn around there is something in the way. Know that it’s just a distraction. Recognize it and get back on your journey to greatness in God. What you have inside of you is bigger than you may realize. It may change a life. It may save a life. It may be the next cure for a disease. It may be the next best seller. Just know that it has a purpose and any thing that’s meant for good is what the enemy wants to destroy.
Distractions are your number one enemy when you’re trying to stay focused. But, determination conquers distractions. You need a firm and fixed intention to achieve a desired thing. Remember the story of The Little Engine That Could? It has been told many times. It is even told as a cartoon. This little train took on a huge task that it originally wasn’t built to do. A longer train asked this small engine to pull it over a high mountain. The larger trains had refused. Well this little engine accepted the challenge. As it pulled the longer train it was so determined to get up and over that mountain that when it reached near the top the pull got harder. But, it didn’t allow the struggle or the distractions of the larger trains looking on to stop it. It actually went faster and faster continually saying, “I-think-I-can, I-think-I-can until it reached the top and went on over and down the grade. As it went down the little engine was saying, “I thought I could, I thought I could.” Now that is determination!
You can do it! Set your eyes on your destiny and don’t allow the distractions in your life to stop you from reaching it.
Blessings..
